Boksic returns to Croatia squad

First Published: Aug 27, 1998

Alen Boksic has returned to the Croatia squad after recovering from knee surgery that removed him from the third place finish in the recent World Cup in France.

The striker has been in intensive training to get fit after the operation with SS Lazio and he returns in the 18 man squad named by Miroslav Blazevic for the September 5th European Championships qualifier against the Republic of Ireland.

Midfielder Robert Prosinecki is missing after being dropped during the World Cup tournament and his recent crticism of Blazevic seems to have ended his involvement with the national side. Prosinecki was in masterful form in the European Cup last night as Croatia Zagreb hammered Glasgow Celtic by 3-0.

Goalkeeper Drazen Ladic is also dropped and Slavan Bilic is also dropped after more miserable form with Everton.

Goalkeepers - Mrmic and Pavlovic.

Defenders - Soldo, Stimac, Tokic, Tudor and Simic.

Midfielders - Cvitanovic, Asanovic, Rukavina, Stanic, Jarni and Jurcic.

Forwards - Suker, Boksic, Maric and Krpan.
