Swedish club AIK have told Premiership leaders Aston Villa to leave their goalkeeper alone.
Mattias Asper is regarded as one of the top young European goalkeepers and has been voted Swedish goalkeeper of the year in the past month. The 24 year old has been invited to train with Aston Villa but the Stockholm club are furious over the move.
They intend to prevent Asper from having any involvement with Villa unless the English club is prepared to pay a substantial transfer fee. Manchester United and Arsenal are both considering moves to sign Asper but Villa have declared the strongest interest so far as they search for a replacement for Roma-bound Mark Bosnich.
