Dublin says no to Blackburn and "I'll sue" to Coventry

First Published: Oct 30, 1998

The decision by Coventry City captain Dion Dublin to reject a move to Blackburn Rovers has put him on collision course with the Premiership club.

Coventry agreed a £6.75 million transfer fee with Blackburn and allowed them to approach their 29 year old captain. Dublin rejected the move because Rovers would not meet his wage demands.

Aston Villa have bid £5.1 million to allow them to talk to the player but Coventry insist that Blackburn set the market value and unless clubs meet that then Dublin will not be allowed to move. Dublin's advisers have threatened a breach of contract over a standard clause in his deal with Coventry - signed last year - that allows Dublin to discuss a transfer deal with any club that puts in a £5 million bid. Dublin has already refused to play in one game for Coventry and is now forced to train alone while the wrangle is sorted out. Newcastle have also put in a £5 million plus offer for the player but he wants to remain in the Midlands.
