Manchester United are assessing the knee damage that striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suffered in a Euro 2000 win for Norway ion Wednesday night.

The striker scored one of the four Norwegian goals but failed to appear for the second half after suspected knee ligament damage suffered in a collision. The ligament damage is thought to be severe and may put the player out of action for the rest of the season.

United have injury problems with defender Jaap Stam and Ryan Giggs before the Premiership game tomorrow afternoon at home to Aston Villa. A win will put them ahead of Arsenal at the top of the division with the champions playing Derby at home on Sunday. Giggs will miss the game with persistent ankle problems and Stam has not recovered from a muscle strain.
