Jeremies to stay with Bayern Munich on new contract

Bayern Munich midfielder Jens Jeremies has agreed a new contract with the Bundesliga club to last until 2003.

Jeremies was named today in the Germany squad to face Croatia in a friendly next week and the 26 year old has established himself as a key member of the national team and Bayern's recent success in the Bundesliga.

Fiorentina had been linked with a move for the player but the departure of Giovanni Trapatonni after the end of this season from the Italian club ends their interest in the player. Trapatonni helped to sign Jeremies from TSV 1860 Munich in 1998 and admires his hard working style.

Jeremies has yet to complete the formalities of signing a new deal but agreement has been reached on pay and terms.
