The ground suffered a power cut which reflected the poor performance given by Croatia in Split but Ebbe Sand struck the winner to secure a victory for Denmark.
Both sets of players found the ball tough to control in the pelting rain and swirling wind and Croatia never came to terms with the disruption caused to their passing game by the conditions.
The power cut stopped the game with seven minutes left and perhaps the game should have been abandoned at that point. But the friendly was played to a conclusion and Croatia did not look happy with their game at all.
Sand's goal will be regarded as one of the better international efforts of this year. He collected the ball in the last few seconds of the first half and went on a mazy run which took him past two challenges before lobbing Mrmic in goal on the run.
Peter Schmeichel was the equal to any Croatian effort on the night and what pressure made the Danish defence struggle only seemed to inspire the veteran. His handling was very safe throughout in difficult conditions. In the 13th minute he had to run back and tip over a Suker effort that was dipping into the net. He also denied Suker from a curling freekick and saved a header from Soldo.
