Italy coach Giovanni Trapattoni is set to coax exciting Juventus wing-back Mauro Camoranesi into the Italian national squad after the exciting young wing-back was overlooked by Argentina.
Camoranesi, 26, was born in Argentina but has Italian grandparents and is therefore eligible to play for either country.
Trapattoni is expected to approach the former Verona star after he was left out of Argentina coach Marcelo Bielsa's squad for their friendly international against the Netherlands on February 12.
Italy face Portugal on the same day in Palermo, southern Italy and it is thought Camoranesi could make his debut against the hosts of the 2004 European championships.
Earlier this month Italian press reports said Camoranesi had already opted to play for Italy following a lengthy conversation with Trapattoni.
But those claims were refuted by Juventus president Luciano Moggi who said the player had still not made his mind up.
