Valencia midfielder Miguel Angel Angulo has done a mysterious u-turn on an expected move to Premiership giants Arsenal and re-signed a four-year deal with his Spanish club.
The 27-year-old Angulo had completed a medical at Highbury and spoken of his admiration for Gunners boss Arsene Wenger before returning to Spain on Monday night to sign a new four-year deal with the Spanish and UEFA Cup champions.
Valencia president Jaime Orti, who denied that Angulo had met problems at the Arsenal medical, confirmed Angulo would remain in Spain and further his career at the Mestalla.
Orti said: "He has decided to return to the club and when he arrives we will see why he has taken this decision.
"Angulo's decision has nothing to do with the medical test. He deserves all of our affection and I hope he returns here to stay."
Valencia, who are now coached by former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri, got their Spanish league title defence off to the perfect start on Monday with a 2-1 defeat of Villareal.
