AC Milan's Brazilian midfielder Kaka was unveiled as an 'Ambassador Against Hunger' for the United Nations' World Food Programme.

The 22-year-old midfielder, whose real name is Ricardo Izecson Dos Santos Leite, will use his high-profile in world football to put global hunger on the international agenda.

Other sportsmen supporting the WFP include world marathon record holder Paul Tergat of Kenya, Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan and former rugby World Cup-winning captains Nick Farr-Jones and David Kirk.

Kaka, a member of Brazil's 2004 World Cup-winning squad, rose to prominence by helping AC Milan to the 2003/4 Italian league title in his first season in Serie A.

The WFP's aim is to halve the 800 million chronically hungry people around the world by the year 2015.
