Manchester City Danny Mills, seen here training with England, hopes his club form will help him return to the international set-up.

Manchester City defender Danny Mills believes his form with Manchester City this season could put an end to his international exile.

City chief Kevin Keegan has been happy with the form Mills has shown since his move from Leeds United and the manager believes he is playing at a level similar to when Sven-Goran Eriksson handed him his England debut in May, 2001.

The former Charlton defender went on to make a further 18 appearances for his country - including playing in every England game at the 2002 World Cup finals.

But he has not been involved since the friendly against Portugal last February.

"It's out of my hands," said Mills who will hope to put in another impressive performance in Monday's Premiership clash at home to bottom club Norwich City.

"All I can say is that I came here with the ambition to play well for City, hopefully push the team up the table and play as I have done at every other club I have been at.

"Internationally, what will be will be. The manager is there to pick the squad and it is down to his opinion.

"All you can do is try to play well for your club. Playing at international level will take care of itself.

"Maybe I am playing as well as I was then, maybe I am not.

"But it's not down to me and I don't pick the team. If I did I'd be in the team every week and I'd probably make myself captain as well! But all I can do is keep trying to play well," Mills told the Manchester City website.
