Bayern set for Chinese trip

First Published: Sep 29, 2004

German giants Bayern Munich have rescheduled their football trip to China which were cancelled last year because of the SARS virus, general manager Uli Hoeness said.

The most titled Bundesliga club have reached agreement for matches which were scrapped because of the pneumonia-like illness which killed 800 people, mostly in Hong Kong and China, last year.

"We're trying to go to China next year. We've reached agreement on matches in Shanghai and Beijing," Hoeness told Deutsche Welle radio.

Hoeness added that they were also on the lookout for a Chinese player.

"We're looking for a Chinese player. Our supervisors travelled to the 2004 Asian Cup and watched every match," he added.

German football bosses have been trying to increase links with their Chinese counterparts.

Agreement has been reached for the first international match between both countries to be held in Germany on February 8, 2006, four months before they host the World Cup.
