Ukraine striker Andrei Shevchenko of AC Milan, who hurt his right ankle against Bologna at the weekend, will be out of action for three weeks, Milan revealed.

Shevchenko, the 2004 European Footballer of the Year, limped off in the 38th minute at the San Siro on Sunday after coming off worse in a challenge with Alessandro Gamberini.

Shevchenko was examined early Monday by club doctor Massimo Sala, who confirmed a slight twisted ankle, and he will need complete rest for two weeks before starting light training.

He will miss the next three Italian league games, against Messina on Wednesday night, against AS Roma on February 6 and then Reggina on February 13, as well as Ukraine's World Cup qualifier against Albania on February 9.

Milan will surely want their star striker back to full fitness before February 23 when they meet Manchester United at Old Trafford for the first knockout round, first leg of the Champions League.
