Eric Djemba-Djemba signed a four-and-half-year contract with Aston Villa on transfer deadline day after agreeing a move from Premiership rivals Manchester United, the Cameroon international's new club announced.

Midfielder Djemba-Djemba, 23, has passed a medical and could make his Villa debut in Wednesday's Premier League match against Fulham.

He joined United in July 2003 after a 3.5-million-pound move from French club Nantes.

But Djemba-Djemba failed to hold down a regular first-team place at Old Trafford making just 20 league appearances for Alex Ferguson's side.

He won the African Nations Cup with Cameroon in 2002 having made his international debut in January of that year.

Djemba-Djemba was also a member of his country's 2002 World Cup squad and helped Cameroon through to the quarter-finals of last year's African Nations Cup.
