Japanese defensive midfielder Koji Nakata and Swedish defender Daniel Majstorovic have joined FC Basel, the Swiss club announced.

The 27-year-old Japanese international, capped 55 times for his national side, signed a two-and-a-half year contract after leaving French club Olympique Marseille, Basel said in a statement.

Majstorovic, 29, who has played four matches for Sweden, joined from Dutch side Twente Enschede.

Both players will be available for the Swiss league leaders' first match after the two-month winter break on February 12.

However, only Majstorovic will be able to play in the UEFA Cup tie against Monaco three days later. Nakata is excluded for the rest of this season because he had already lined up for Marseille in European competition.
