AS Roma's coach Lucianno Spalletti leaves the field at the end of his side's Serie A match against Catania at Angelo Massimino stadium in Catania, Sicily, May 18. Spalletti has said he needs to sign two world class players in order to wrest the Serie A title away from Inter Milan next season.
AS Roma coach Luciano Spalletti said he needs to sign two world class players in order to wrest the Serie A title away from Inter Milan next season.
Roma have finished runners-up to Inter the last two seasons, coming up just three points short last time out having finished a distant 22 points behind the nerazzurri in 2006/07.
And Spalletti claims his team are close to being title winners.
"We need two players not six. Of course if some left it would be necessary to replace them but everyone here is valuable and would cost their worth," Spalletti told the Roma TV channel.
However, Spalletti wants to work with players he knows well and waved away speculation that he was after Barcelona pair Gianluca Zambrotta and Samuel Eto'o.
"I like players that I know," he said. "Our squad has a good base and to perfect it would require two top level players: the nucleus we have is good."
