Valencia saw Claudio Lopez guide them into group B contention with another magnificent performance.
The Argentine forward continues to justify the £24 million interest from SS Lazio with great displays and he set up all the goals as the home side mounted a convincing second half to set up a great game at Old Trafford on December 8th.
The French champions had no answer to the varied attacking moves produced by Valencia in the second session after their excellent defending had help Lopez at bay for much of the first half.
The Argentine star was not to be denied and his runs into space and dribbling skills eventually broke down the French defence.
In the 60th minute he combined with Farinos to get his side into the lead. Lopez set off on a diagonal run that took him past three defenders. He slipped the ball square to Farinos who produced a sweeping shot into the far corner from twenty metres out that drifted into the net.
Eight minutes later lopez repeated his diagonal excursion from the left to right side and chipped the ball over the defenders to meet Ilie's low finish at the far post.
Kily Gonzales ended the game with an emphatic finish as Lopez played a one-two with him on the left side of the area. In clear space but at a narrow angle Gonzalez blasted the ball into the roof of the net with two minutes to go.
Gonzalez had hit a post in the first half with a cross from the left and Lopez had shot wide on the run in th two best chances made by the home side in the opening forty five minutes. Sylvain Wiltord had cut inside from the right to hit a hard drive that forced a tip over from Pallop in the home goal in the French team's best chance at goal.
