Rosenborg drew 1-1 with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich but were lucky to hold on for a point after a good show from the German side.
Bayern took the lead in only the 10th minute as the home defence creaked to allow a speculative shot from Carsten Jancker to find the target from the edge of the area.
From that point it did not look as if the Norwegian team could register a home win but they did well to come back into the game at all.
Paolo Sergio produced a poor finish when clean through on goal and Jancker also fluffed a close range chance to leave the Trondheim side still in the game at the interval.
Rosenborg were harder into the tackle and more purposeful at the start of the second session and got an almost instant reward in the 47th minute. Bent Skammelsrud went on a twisting run that evaded two challenges at the edge of the area before firing a low drive into the net. It was the best chance created by the home side in the second half as they game dipped in quality to a scrappy affair that suited Bayern.
