Cameroon qualified for the last eight of the African Nations Cup but flopped into the quarter finals with a 1-0 defeat to an unregarded Togo side.
The Kumasi game showed a poor Cameroon side come unstuck with a casual attitude as several African contenders for the trophy fail to compile a decent three game run in the qualifying section.
Cameroon were never as bad as Nigeria managed against Congo last week but never looked like getting back into the game after they conceded a 19th minute goal.
Massamesso Tchangai scored the winner when the Cameroon goalkeeper Boukar Alioum deflected a shot into his path allowing a low and hard finish into the net.
Togo needed to score two more goals to make the last eight of the tournament themselves but could only manage a few fitful attacks as Ghana and Cameroon secured a place in the second stage on goal difference.
