Fiorentina's season all but ended as Girondins Bordeaux snuffed out their hopes of trying to make the Champions league quarter finals with a 3-3 draw.

This dramatic game saw the Italian side shock their fans by conceding a 4th minute goal knowing they needed to win and hope that Manchester United defeated Valencia in Spain.

Sylvain Wiltord was alert to a defensive mix up and the Artemio Franchi stadium fell quiet when he stroked the ball in to make La Viola's task even harder.

Fiorentina failed to clear a save from Toldo and the French striker stepped forward to drive the ball low into the far corner.

The home side tried to get back into the game but needed a 46th minute penalty to turn the game in their favour.

Herve Alicarte was sent off for hauling down Gabriel Batistuta and Enrico Chiesa converted the penalty to give his side hope.

Chiesa set up Gabriel Batistuta's fifth goal of the tournament in the 58th minute when he was pput clear on the left by Rui Costa. Chiesa side footed the ball into the Argentine's path for a comfortable finish.

Rui Costa hit the third goal himself when he took advantage of a bounce on the edge of the area to lift the bal over the last defender adjust his balance and drive the ball low into the net on the turn.

A sweeping move across the pitch involving Wiltord and Laslandes allowed substitute Marc Zanotti to score with an angled drive in the 87th minute and Laurent Batlles left Fiorentina with nothing when he volleyed a deep Zanotto cross into the ground and over Toldo's dive.
