Champions League - Hamburg SV 0 Panathinaikos 1

First Published: Sep 26, 2000

Hamburg SV had no answer to the approach play of Panathinaikos and the Greek's adventurous attacks deserved to win.

The only goal came in the 37th minute when Georgios Nassiopoulos went on a long solo run and rounded Hans Joerg Butt to score a great goal.

The visiting team then had the luxury of playing on the break and this tactic dominated the second half as Hamburg failed to create good chances.

Hamburg had to wait for a decent chance until the 89th minute when Sergei Barbarez headed a free kick onto the cross bar but the Greek team held on comfortably for most of the match.
