Iraq survived a wild finish in Almaty to clinch a place in the second stage of the Asian qualifying zone.

Three players were red carded in the last three minutes of this draw which saw Kazakhstan finish level with the Iraqis on 14 points at the top of group six but go out on goal difference.

The Kazakhs need to win this match and led with an Oleg Litvinenko drive from long range which whipped into the net in the 32nd minute.

Iraq drew level when Haider Majid met a dropping ball with a volley from ten metres out in the 42nd minute.

The home team attacked when they could in the second half but the scrappy game drifted toward a bitter conclusion as Igor Avdeyev was sent off in the 87th minute while team mate Almas Kulshibayev and Abdul Wahab Abolheel of Iraq were also shown the red card in the final minute for a confrontation after a foul.
