Croatia 2 Greece 2

First Published: Apr 25, 2001

A last minute goal from Miki Rapaic saved Croatia from defeat against Greece.

The Greeks threw away a 2-0 lead in the last 23 minutes of this friendly and now face a FIFA disciplinary decision tomorrow which could see them suspended from international competition and World Cup qualification matches.

FIFA is angry that the Greek government is pushing through reform measures that interfere with the running of the Greek FA which has long been considered corrupt and in need of changes.

The visiting team took the lead in the 38th minute with a drive on the volley from Alekos Alexadris and he scored again from close range in the 50th minute after running clear of the defence to collect a through pass.

Vlaovic replaced veteran Davor Suker and scored quickly when the Greek back line failed to clear a cross in the 68th minute and Rapaic brought his team level when he finished on the run after a pass from Igor Biscan. Davor Vugrinic fluffed a headed chance in front of goal deep into injury time in the best opportunity of the game.
