Austria did enough with two goals to go to the top of World Cup qualifying group seven.

Edi Glieder put the home team ahead in Innsbruck on 43 minutes when Ivica Vastic put him clear in front of goal with through pass and Glieder finished with a curling shot beyond goalkeeper Peter Jehle.

Thomas Floegel ensured that Austria would take over from Spain at the top of the group with a 75th minute header from a corner by Andy Herzog. Austria lead Spain by one point at the top but have played one game more.
