Spain 1 Japan 0First Published: Apr 25, 2001Valencia midfielder Ruben Baraja scored an injury time winner to hand Spain a fortunate victory over Japan. The Japanese were very close to securing a worthy draw in Cordoba but Baraja squeezed a shot across goal with an angled finish to score. The goal saw Japanese goalkeeper Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi defeated for the first time but the visitors were close to claiming a tactical victory as they snuffed out Spain's attack with a well-organised team display of hard running. Spain dominated the first half with Kawaguchi by far the most prominent Japanese player but then saw their ideas drift an Japan were able to mount several short raids into attack themselves. Japan lost 5-0 last month in Paris against France but found Spain easier to cope with. All Content is Copyright © 2001 WorldSoccerNews.com. All rights reserved.
