2002 World Cup - Trinidad and Tobago 1 Mexico 1

First Published: Apr 26, 2001

Mexico came from behind to draw in Port of Spain but trail the US by five points in CONCACAF's final round of World Cup qualifying matches.

A 61st minute goal by midfielder Pavel Pardo produced the 1-1 draw with Trinidad and Tobago in a scrappy game at the Queen's Park Oval.

The home team took the lead in the 14th minute when defender Marvin Andrews jumped through the Mexican defence to head in an Angus Eve corner.

Eve was sent off by Kuwait referee Kameel Saad Mane for a foul off the ball on Francisco Palencia in the 35th minute.

Substitute Jesus Arellano created the equaliser for Pardo who controlled his pass and drove in from fifteen metres. Jared Borguetti was brought on after that but wasted a great chance when he chose to pass when clear and Pardo shot wide.

The Mexicans were also reduced to 10 men when defender Rafael Marquez was red-carded in the 75th minute for a second bookable offence.

The result left Mexico with four points and Trinidad with one point after three games each. Mexico meet Costa Rica on June 16th with Trinidad travelling to Honduras the same day.
