South Korea defeated future World Cup opponents the US 1-0 in Sogwipo.

The World Cup co-hosts are in Group D at next May's finals alongside Poland and Portugal.

Veteran captain Yoo Sang-Chul scored the winner after twenty minutes as the new Sogwipo stadium was opened near Mount Halla.

Lee Chun-Soo hit a corner that Yoo headed into the net at the near post off the crossbar.

US midfielder Chris Armas pulled a chance to equalise in the second half and Jeff Cunningham saw a header kicked off the line with ten minutes to go and substitute Ante Razov hit the post with the rebound.
