2002 World Cup - Liberia 1 Ghana 2

First Published: Jul 02, 2001

Liberia lost top place in group B to Nigeria after a 2-1 defeat in Ghana.

Nigeria now lead the section by one point after a 4-0 win in Sudan.

The Liberia team dominated the game but showed no ability to finish allowing Ghana to stabilise after a poor start and then press forward themselves.

Charles Amoah put Ghana in to the lead in the 33rd minute when he was put clean through for a low finish by Emmanuel Duah.

Kelvin Sebwe equalised from close range in the 43rd minute as George Weah helped to set up the play but Isaac Boakye won the game when he hit in a loose ball after Liberia failed to clear a cross on the hour mark.
