First Published: Jul 24, 2001

Colombia beat Peru 3-0 with two goals from Victor Hugo Aristazabal to reach the Copa America semi finals.

Colombia will now face Honduras for a place in the final and have yet to concede a goal at the rescheduled tournament featuring mainly reserve players.

Peruvian goalkeeper Oscar Ibanez handled the ball just outside his area on the half hour ut Mexican referee Gilberto Alcala let him off with only a yellow card to save Peru from a heavier defeat although at that stage the game was at 0-0.

Striker Aristazabal scored in the 55th minute when he collected a loose ball and hit a first time shot which Ibanez reached but could not keep out of the net.

Aristizabal forced a great save three minutes later from the 'keeper but Colombia had controlled the game from the start of the second session and Peru buckled again in the 66th minute when Giovanni Hernandez scored from close range and the final goal came in the 87th minute when Arsitazabal headed in a Freddy Grisales cross. The striker is now joint top scorer at the Copa on five goals - level with Paulo Wanchope of Costa Rica.
