2002 World Cup - Greece 2 Germany 4First Published: Mar 29, 2001Germany produced a stunning win to stay in control of group nine with only ten men in Athens. Miroslav Klose was the hero again for the Germans with two goals as Germany took control of the game following a red card for Sebastian Deisler in the 60th minute. But Greece had the chances and especially early on to dent German chances of reaching the finals next year. Carsten Jancker set up Germany for a sixth minute lead when he guarded the ball with his back to goal for Marko Rehmer to stick the ball in. Greece responded with some frantic attacks and in the 20th minute Angelos Haristeas equalised from close range but they conceded the initiative again when Grigoris Georgatos pulled down Michael Ballack in the penalty area only four minutes later with Ballack scoring the spot kick. Giorgos Georgiadis unsuccessfully claimed two penalties for fouls before he met a Georgatos cross for the Gree's second with a header in the 44th minute. Miroslav Klose gave Germany a lead that they proved tough enough to keep after he came on as a substitute in a positive move by coach Rudi Voller and fellow replacement Marco Bode scored from close range in the final minute.
