World Cup - Senegal 3 Uruguay 3First Published: Jun 11, 2002An 87th minute penalty from Alvaro Recoba brought Uruguay back on level terms after they conceded three goals in the first half. Richart Morales dived to earn the spot kick which Recoba converted easily to cap a spirited fight back from Uruguay but it is not enough to stop Senegal from progressing to the second stage. After letting in three goals in the first session Uruguay came right back at Senegal in the second half. Just twenty seconds into the restart substitute Richart Morales was on hand to strike in a rebound after goalkeeper Tony Sylva saved but the ball ran away from him. Morales came close with a header deflected wide before substitute Diego Forlan emphasized the scale of the Uruguayan fight back when he hit in a volley from distance on 70 minutes. But Forlan wasted a 77th minute chance to equalize when he went one-on-one with goalkeeper Sylva but dragged his shot wide of the post. Senegal were meant to be comfortable after a goal ruled out in the 37th minute was eventually given. Pape Diop hit a powerful volley in off the crossbar but was ruled ahead of play until discussions among the officials gave the goal. Senegal had taken the lead after Diego Silva had almost given Uruguay an early goal with a shot from an Alvaro Recoba cross that went just wide and n the 19th minute the South Americans conceded. El Hadji Diouf intercepted a back pass from Paolo Montero and went down as Uruguay goalkeeper Fabian Carini challenged him. It looked a dive from Diouf and Carini was only booked but Khaled Fadiga scored from the spot with a high kick. Henri Camara beat two defenders to cross in the 26th minute for Pape Diop to hit high into the top corner of the goal. A bad-tempered game saw 11 payers booked including winger Fadiga who will miss the next game. All Content is Copyright © 2002 WorldSoccerNews.com. All rights reserved.
