Japan won 2-0 in Poland with first half goals from midfield star Hidetoshi Nakata and striker Naohiro Takahara.

Nakata gave Japan an excellent start in the 10th minute when he was on hand to take Daisuke Ichikawa's pass and finish low while Takahara hit the target from close range.

Japan pressurised throughout and forced Polish goalkeepers Jerzy Dudek and Radoslav Majdan into several good saves but the home side offered little in attack.
