Batistuta misses World Cup match against Peru

Gabriel Batistuta is to miss Argentina's 2002 World Cup qualifier against Peru at the weekend.

The AS Roma star has not recovered from a right knee tendon injury despite recent magnetic treatment and coach Marcelo Bielsa may bring new Bologna signing Julio Cruz into the squad for the game.

SS Lazio striker Hernan Crespo is set to start the match but Bielsa intends to partner him with another striker in attack. Argentina lead the CONMEBOL qualifying section by four points but record goal scorer Batistuta has missed their last three matches with injury.
