West Ham sign Song from Liverpool

West Ham have signed of Cameroon international Rigobert Song from Liverpool for £2.5 million.

The 24 year old told French press reporters last week that the deal was certain to go through after the two Premiership teams agreed a fee of £2.5 million. ersonal terms were then agreed between Song, who helped Cameroon to the African Nations Cup title last February, and the London club.

Song joined Liverpool after the 1998 World Cup finals and has seen his first team chances grow increasingly limited despite some good performances for the Anfield club.

He is now part of a rebuilding plan at West Ham after they sold star defender Rio Ferdinand to Leeds United for a British record £18 million. West Ham wanted Song to join their defence after the loss of the 22 year old England international.

Song was the first player to be sent off in successive World Cup finals with Cameroon and Liverpool spent £2.6 million to sign him from Salernitana at the start of last year. He has a four year contract with West Ham.

West Ham are expected to make at least £8 million of the fee earned for Ferdinand available for new signings and furtehr purchases are expected by manager Harry Redknapp.
