Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher will not face police charges after throwing a coin at a fan during Sunday's FA Cup defeat at Arsenal.
The coin was thrown at the 24 year old and hit him during the second half of the bad-tempered Highbury clash. He picked up the coin and threw it back into the crowd with obvious intent and later apologised for the incident.
Carragher was red carded for violent conduct and the Metropolitan Police today confirmed the player will receive a formal warning for his offence but no further action will be taken.
A police spokesman said: "All the facts of the case have been considered. The two people who allegedly received injuries have declined to make allegations.
"The only outstanding matter is the throwing of an object under the Football Offences Act.
"In light of all the circumstances it has been decided that a formal warning will be issued."
The verbal warning comes before the English FAS's investigation into the incident.
>Carragher is facing a three game ban and will miss the friendly for England against Holland on February 13th if his ban, as expected, starts next week.
