Germany captain and goalkeeper Oliver Kahn has been named as the World Cup's top player.
The 33 year old only let in one goal on Germany's progress to Sunday's final where they were defeated 2-0 by Braziol with the goalkeeper admitting his mistake on the 68th minute first goal from Ronaldo set up Brazil's win.
But Kahn has beaten the striker - who finished top scorer at the finals with 8 goals in 7 games - to take the Golden Ball award.
Reporters awarded Khan the prize by 21 votes from Ronaldo with the goalkeeper becoming the first player is his position to win the trophy with 147 votes.
South Korean captain Hong Myung-bo was third with 108 votes withh Rivaldo, Ronaldinho and Roberto Carlos all nominated from the winning side.
Kahn also received the Lev Yashin Award from FIFA as best goalkeeper at the finals.
The previous winners of the Golden Ball sponsored by Adidas were Paolo Rossi (1982), Diego Maradona (1986), Toto Schillaci (1990), Romario (1994) and Ronaldo (1998).
