World Cup referee Peter Prendergast says he has asked FIFA to investigate claims from Belgium captain Marc Wilmots over a disallowed goal in their defeat by Brazil in the quarter finals last month.
The Jamaican match official also says Wilmots is a "a liar" and denies claims from the midfielder that he spoke to the player about a disallowed goal for the European side that would have given them the lead against the eventual World Cup winners.
"Wilmots said I had viewed the pictures of his goal that I had ruled out during half time and agreed that it was a mistake", Prendergast says.
"That is not true. I have asked FIFA to launch an investigation".
The Belgian FA are backing Wilmots who rightly claims his headed goal was disallowed for no good reason by Prendergast in just one of several abysmal refereeing blunders which blighted the World Cup finals.
FIFA president Sepp Blatter claimed last week that referees from minor nations would not be given high profile games in the knockout stages at the World Cup in future.
But FIFA have created a mess with their stance on referees. The two semi finals and the final were given to European referees with experience in Champions League and European Championship matches. Why not the quarter finals as well ?
