Sunday night's victory against Peru shows that Argentina has completely recovered from their defeat against Brazil despite the loss of injured superstar Gabriel Batistuta.
This World Cup qualifying match played in Lima saw the South American giants giving few chances to the hosts as they controlled the game. With a powerful shot with his right foot, Hernan Crespo scored the first goal in the 27th minute. Only eleven minutes later Sebastian Veron executed superbly a free kick that made the ball hit home without giving any chance to the goalkeeper.
In the second half Argentina cooled down a bit and Ecuador's coach decided to get Gustavo Tempone onto the pitch. In the 67th minute the substitute tried to chip the ball over Tito Bonano, but the 'keeper was quick enough to tip it over the goal. Bonano was not so impressive two minutes later when Walter Samuel scored after he failed to hold a free kick from Tempone. Now Argentina's momentum was hurt but at the end only Veron managed to get near the goal when his shot powerfully hit the bar in the last minute.
