Czech Republic 5 South Korea 0

First Published: Aug 15, 2001

Three goals from substitute Miroslav Beranek helped the Czech Republic to hammer South Korea 5-0 in Drnovice.

Juventus new boy Pavel Nedved ened the best move of the game to that point in the 30th minute with the first goal as he drove from the edge of the penalty area after finding space as the result of an impressive passing movement.

But the goals only really flowed when Beranek came on in the 66th minute and scored only seconds later when he whipped a low drive from distance into the net as the Korean defenders failed to close him down.

Vratislav Lokvenc added the third with a header from a Nedved corner which was driven into the heart of the defence before a drive from Beranek who scored a penalty after Kang Chul hauled down Ludek Straceny on a run in the 91st minute to end his scoring.

The Czechs play Iceland on September 1st in their next 2002 World Cup qualifier.
