First Published: Jun 06, 2001

Portugal crushed Cyprus 6-0 in Lisbon and move into second place in group two ahead of Holland.

The Portuguese now have 15 points from seven games and trail Ireland by three points.

They lead the Dutch by one point and went ahead in the 36th minute when Cyprus goalkeeper Michael Morphis fluffed a catch to let it into the net through his legs after a weak shot by Pedro Pauleta.

Perdo Barbosa added a second goal in the 55th minute when he was put clear for a neat finish by Nuno Capucho high into the net on the run.

Four minutes later Barbosa scored his second when he hit in a rebound after Morphis lost track of a high cross with Joao Pinto also going for the ball.

Pauleta hit a low shot after a cross from Capucho in the 71st minute. Pinto scored with a 76th minute header and completed the scoring with his second goal when he clipped in a pass from Pauleta from in front of goal.
