Trinidad have almost no hope of progressing to the World Cup finals after a 4-2 defeat by Honduras in Port of Spain.
The Hondurans have moved into third place in the CONCACAF qualifying group with the top three of the six teams
The U.S.drew 0-0 with Jamaica in Kingston but lead with the group 10 points with Costa Rica moving second on seven points after a 2-1 win over Mexico at the Atzeca Stadium in Mexico City.
Honduras and Jamaica are level on five points leading Mexico by a point and Trinidad and Tobago by four points.
Honduras deserved their win and took the lead in the 13th minute when their captain Carlos Pavon scored easily from a penalty kick after David Lawrence felled striker David Sauzo.
Seven minutes later Sauzo crossed from the right after a good runfor Danilo Turcious to hit a low volley into the net.
Trinidad pushed forward in the second half but Honduran substitute Rony Morales was not marked on a counter attack and he was allowed to collect a long cross for a low finish to seal the win in the 54th minute.
But Trinidad scored themselves in the 56th minute when substitute Russell Latapy finished from close range when he reached a loose ball.
Honduras always threatened on the break after that and won an 86th minute which Amado Gueverra converted and Stern John pulled another goal back in the last minute.
Trinidad and Tobago now move on to play the US in Foxboro on Wednesday with Honduras hosting an increasingly desperate Mexico.
