2002 World Cup - US 2 Trinidad and Tobago 0

First Published: Jun 21, 2001

The US found it easy to exploit recent problems in the Trinidad camp and run out 2-0 winners in Foxboro with a goal in only the second minute to set up their victory.

The US are now only one win away from the finals next year.

The visiting defence failed to mark properly and Ante Razov was allowed too much space to reach a cross and divert it into the net.

A low drive from Earnie Stewart from outside the penalty area in the 20th minute after Marvin Andrews had given the ball away ensured the win which keeps the US at the top of the CONCACAF table. The US form has ben given a boost by the crisis which has seen rivals Mexico slump to successive defeats - Mexico lost again, this time in Honduras over night - and the US have 13 points from five matches.

Trinidad have only one point and produced only one decent chance in the entire match which saw Dwight Yorke hit a shot on the turn which US goalkeeper Kasey Keller had no trouble saving.

Glasgow Rangers midfielder Claudio Reyna received his second yellow card in the qualifying group and he will now miss the away match in Mexico on July 1st.
