Costa Rica were pegged back by a 93rd minute penalty against 10-man Trinidad and Tobago to draw 1-1 in the Gold Cup but still reached the last eight.

Stern John's injury time penalty kick saved a point for his side in the Group C encounter.

Rolando Fonseca hit at close range finish when he converted a cross in the 56th minute to give the World Cup finalists the lead and three minutes later Trinidad were reduced to ten men when Arnold Dwarika received his second booking of the game for a late tackle.

Costa Rica defender Luis Marin brought down substitute Aungus Eve to concede the penalty and Trinidad and Tobago can now advance to the quart finals themselves if they get at least a draw with Martinique.
