China 0 Uruguay 2

First Published: May 16, 2002

China were only let down by a weak period in the second half as they hosted Uruguay in Shenyang.

Heavy rain hardly helped defenders after an even first half as Cruz Azul striker Sebastan Abreu made the most of two chances in the 74th and 87th minutes when Chinese defenders were unable to stop his runs into space to finish from close range.

Substitute Zhao Junzhe had two good chances to equalise but saw his first late effort saved and then slapped a shot high over the crossbar when he clean through on goal.
